The MIDPOINT Shorts program invites experts from the field of short film industry. However, it connects all important parts of the film industry in general and is build on solid foundations of traditional script analysis.
Head of Studies & Group Leader
The Head of Studies oversees the general methodology of the program, ensures the needs of the participants are met in the most effective way, and guarantees the practical value and industry impact of the training delivered.
As the Group Leader, Pavel also oversees the development of projects in their group from the very beginning of the training until they graduate from the program.
Pavel Marek is a globetrotter - born in India, professionally acting in the Czech Republic as writer and director of features, shorts and short documentaries and serving as a professor of Department of Directing at FAMU Prague.
The Producer Tutor makes sure the projects prepare solid package materials and production plans and would budget their films in a most effective and realistic way.
The tutor prepares the projects and participants to present themselves not only for the final pitching of the program, but for the general presentation of the project at any imaginable time and place.
Comprehensive project development program for short film projects
Five creative teams work in a small group under the guidance of an internationally renowned and experienced script consultant tutor. Within the course of the workshop, they gain deeper understanding of the creative aspects involved in the work, as well as insights into financing, sales, festival and distribution strategies.

Participants get acquainted online with the tutors, fellow participants and the implemented methodology. They already start working on their scripts and set up the dynamics within the group.
Workshop 1: Script development & Project packagingOctober 18–22, 2021 | online
Workshop 1 is mainly focused on creative development and structural dramaturgy. During the first workshop, the participants also start working on their package materials and production strategies together with the producer tutor. Workshop 2: Industry insights & Project showcaseJanuary 2022 | Trieste, Italy
Workshop 2 serves as a platform to further advance the scripts, while it also incorporates distribution strategies into the development process and addresses the important matters connected to presentation skills and promotion. The whole program concludes with the project showcase within the When East Meets West Co-Production Forum, followed by one-to-one meetings with the decision-makers.

2003, four years before Slovakia entered the Schengen Area. Martin and Denisija, a young couple from Ukraine, are trying to get illegaly to Germany through Slovakia, like many people before them. The border between Slovakia and Ukraine will be in a couple of years one of the most secured borders in Europe, but in 2003 it is still open for smugglers and for people hoping to find a new life in Western Europe. Martin and Denisija both dream about getting to Germany, a place they’ve never been to, both ready to sacrifice everything they have to reach this destination.
