FAQs
You may ask...
-
How do you define young adults?
There’s no strict definition - but for the purposes of our program, we primarily target Millennials and Generation Z, aged approximately 16 to 34. This age group represents a dynamic and diverse audience with evolving tastes, habits, and media consumption patterns.
-
Are genres welcomed?
Absolutely! Young audiences are enthusiastic consumers of fiction, particularly genres like fantasy/sci-fi, comedy and comedy-drama, and action-adventure. According to research by the Public Media Alliance, these genres resonate most with viewers aged 16–34.
-
I have an idea of a series but it's still early development. Can I apply anyway?
Yes! Focus Young Adults is designed as a "bottom-up" training program, and will help you create your show from scratch.
-
What exactly is a "series pitch" or "statement of purpose"?
You can find a detailed description on all the requested submission materials on the first page of your submission form. You can access the form once you've created a profile at the MIDPOINT Visitor Page (see intructions in the "Application" folder). No worries! You can save the form anytime you like and come back to it later, and you can also save or submit any number of applications you like!
-
I'd like to apply with a limited series. Am I eligible?
Sure! But before you apply, take a moment and first think about why is a series format the one you're thinking of as opposed to a feature film. Is there an engine moving your story? Are you working with a more complex world? (...) Took that moment? Okay, so now apply.
-
I am a writer/director and do not have a producer attached to the project yet. Can I apply?
Sure. That said, we generally support and recommend arriving in a team – either of writers, or a writer and producer. It simply makes the brainstorming and creative process easier and more effective, particularly when it comes to series. But you're most welcome to apply as a single writer as well.
-
As a producer, why am I required to participate? Do I need to participate actively?
Yes, exactly. We are aiming for producers who are used to (or want to start) being a part of the creative process, to know the project better, to understand it better to develop it better.
-
Can I apply with more than one project?
Of course – but we'll only choose one. :)
-
My English no good. Me can apply?
Sadly, no. As the entire training runs in English, and during the working days you'll be asked to write directly in English, we require an intermediate level of these language skills. This simply means: your grammar doesn't have to be perfect, but you need to talk/write fluently and have the vocabulary to do so.
-
Does MIDPOINT offer scholarships?
Sadly, not for this particular program. We HIGHLY recommend to submit an application to a national organization (fund, institute, ministry) at the same time you're applying to MIDPOINT Institute. You can always withdraw your application if not selected, but as the processing time of this support can be rather long, it might be quite late to do this once we confirm you're in.
