MIDPOINT at Karlovy Vary IFF 2025: Presenting New Cinematic Voices

On Monday, July 7, the Feature Launch 2025 program will culminate in the Works in Development – Feature Launch showcase at the Main Industry Stage from 14.30.
The event, moderated by Gabriele Brunnenmeyer, will introduce nine fiction feature film projects and the work of three trainee script consultants. Created by teams of writers, producers, and first- or second-time directors, these projects have undergone an intensive development process focused on both script and production readiness.
The teams are now ready to connect with potential co-production and financing partners.
Alongside, the Works in Development – Focus Queer presentation will spotlight five feature film projects with queer themes developed or supported through MIDPOINT Focus Queer, a dedicated platform for inclusive and diverse storytelling. This year’s selection features projects from Ireland/UK/Canada, Germany, Taiwan, Czech Republic, and a guest project from the Dominican Republic. The participation of the Dominican project is supported by the European External Action Service, as part of its broader efforts to promote and protect LGBTIQ+ rights in Latin America through cultural exchange.
Both Feature Launch and Focus Queer projects that meet the eligibility criteria will compete for the Eurimages Co-production Development Award (20,000 EUR), and one Feature Launch project will receive the Works in Development Award (10,000 EUR), presented by MIDPOINT Institute and Karlovy Vary IFF.
Connecting Cottbus Award
A selected project from MIDPOINT Feature Launch will be granted the opportunity to pitch at Connecting Cottbus.
Rotterdam Lab Award
One producer will be selected to participate in the professional training program for producers, Rotterdam Lab, which takes place during IFFR/International Film Festival Rotterdam.
In addition to the project showcases, MIDPOINT will also take part in the International Industry Insights Forum on Monday morning. This curated panel invites industry organizations from around the world to share their methods and missions. MIDPOINT’s presentation will introduce new training modules and the MIDPOINT Talent Connections database – a dynamic platform connecting trusted writing talents with the industry.
Through its activities in Karlovy Vary, MIDPOINT continues to support the development of strong, original cinematic voices and to foster meaningful industry exchange.
Our team will be on site throughout the festival — be sure to catch up with Soňa Morgenthalová, Barbora Struss, Kristýna Plhoňová or Alexandra Gabrižová during the industry days.
We look forward to connecting and sharing what’s next for MIDPOINT.
