The films, inspired by dreams and unconscious experiences aroused the considerable interest of film experts and put him in the circle of surrealistic filmmakers. He contributed to this also as an actor in two films of the surrealist director Jan Svankmajer. In 1998 his full-length film Dead Beetle premiered at the Rotterdam IFF. Later he would concentrate mainly on documentary films. Pavel Marek currently works as a Professor in the Department of Directing at FAMU as well as FAMU International.
