Report: Lectures by Gabor Krigler and Luke Franklin held within the Next Season alumni program

We aim to provide continuous support to our alumni after graduating the programs.

One of the ways to achieve this represents Next Season – an alumni program offering additional education and training to all graduates of MIDPOINT Institute’s series programs.

Gabor Krigler, established producer and Head of Studies of MIDPOINT Series Launch, discussed the topic of creating a teaser for a series in development, examining and analysing examples, offering practical tips and ideas.

Experienced British producer Luke Franklin then talked about the importance of a series bible and shared practical tricks regarding how to make it an efficient selling material.

Gabor Krigler: Creating a Teaser Video for Your Series in Development

Date: Dec 15, 2021
Time: 10:00 - 11:00 CET

You have your pilot script and a series bible. You feel you're ready to enter the market. And when you pitch your series idea, an executive casually asks, “Have you got a mood video?” International pitch forums nowadays outright require a teaser trailer in their application material.

So, what do you do when you may not even have a director on board, certainly not the cast you envision for your show way down the line? You may have some meagre development funding, or no money at all, so you need to rely on favors and goodwill.

You can certainly engage a good editor and use some flashy editing on bits and pieces from existing shows. Boring, you say? I agree.

Through three examples, we’ll examine the key factors and realities of making a mood teaser for little or no money when you want to go beyond the conventional rip-o-matic trailer route that most producers follow.

Luke Franklin: Bibles: Why producers and broadcasters really want them, why writers (sometimes) hate writing them, and why they can be actually A Good Thing for everyone (when done well)

Date: Dec 16, 2021
Time: 15:00 - 16:00 CET

How do you write a bible for an entire television series before you’ve written the entire television series? What level of detail do producers and broadcasters want in a bible? Why don’t they just ask for a treatment? Surely less is more. (Isn’t it?) These are some of the questions explored in this lecture, which also delves into what makes an effective and – most importantly – entertaining bible, and talks about some strategies for devising and writing them, as well as what support to expect from your producer along the way.
