SKEETER
In 1995, five Gay men on the front lines of the AIDS crisis escape the city for a lakeside getaway, only to spark paranoia amongst the locals, forcing them to face the monsters that fear creates.
Set in Ontario, at the height of the AIDS epidemic, SKEETER is a Neo-Queer Horror inspired by true events of rural hysteria and misinformation. Five friends escape the city for a weekend in lake country, seeking relief from the restlessness of fighting daily for their community's survival. Led by Davie, a charismatic, defiant 27-year-old living HIV-positive, the group hopes for peaceful refuge in nature.
But paranoia follows them north into the woods. As the lake country locals become aware that a group has arrived, fear takes hold, fueled by misinformation and panic about contagion. For the group of friends, the line between external threat and internal terror collides. SKEETER reclaims the monster narrative, honoring queer resilience while exposing the true horrors around stigma, ignorance and the bravery it takes to continue to fight for the ones you love.
