Participated in: MIDPOINT Focus Queer 2026
Genre: Drama, Romance, Fantasy
Country: Namibia, France

Driven to uncover her people’s erased pre-colonial history, Nekomba enters into a village trapped between past and present, where she falls for an intended sacrifice and must choose between saving her lover or preserving her forgotten culture.

Nekomba is a journalism student who travels to northern Namibia to research precolonial Oshiwambo life for a college paper. Beneath this also lies a need to reconcile her queerness with her Oshiwambo. After being ostracised and her quest for interviews rejected, Nekomba turns to her estranged aunt, Gertrude, a radical historian who claims to know how travel to a precolonial Oshiwambo Village. Together they cross into this precolonial village, suspended between past and present. Here, Nekomba falls in love with Nuusiku, a 19-year-old wildcard. Through her, she discovers that queerness once belonged naturally to Oshiwambo life. But, stuck in a liminal space, this village is decaying, and Gertrude tries to keep it alive through secret sacrifices. When Nuusiku is revealed as THE sacrifice meant to restore balance, Nekomba must choose between reclaiming a lost past and saving her new love.
