Now and After

Now and After follows 6 main characters in 3 interconnected storylines told through parallel montage. PAVEL (22) is an ambitious young policeman annoyed by his laid-back superior MICHAL (55) who is avoiding his family. MARKÉTA (35) tries to run a restaurant inherited from her late father, where her supporting husband TOMÁŠ (40) cooks, while their daughter BARUNKA (8) struggles with bullying in gym class due to a physical disadvantage. LIBUŠE (70) lives with her husband, refusing treatment for her mental illness.

The film shows these characters at 3 key points: NOW – on the day of a violent tragedy, February 29; and AFTER – 1 year later, and exactly 4 years later. Each decision intertwines their fates in a shared tapestry of trauma, guilt, and for some of them, coping and forgiveness. The story captures the first experience of a country with a mass shooting inspired by the actual first Czech tragedy that occurred in a restaurant in Uherský Brod in 2015.
