Yulia Pogrebnyak was born in Minsk, Belarus and is based in Ruotsinpyhtää, Finland. She studied screenwriting in St.Petersburg and Moscow, has an MA in Screenwriting (Tampere University of Applied Sciences, 2022) and MBA (Nord University, 2018).
Yulia was selected for different talent labs: Disney family movie lab in Russia in 2020, Talent lab in Armenia at Golden Apricot Film Festival in 2019, FEST Pitching forum in Portugal 2021 and 2023, Pitching event by BIFA at Berlinale 2024. In 2024 she received a screenwriter’s grant from AVEK. Yulia is a member of Writers guild of Finland.
Yulia's short film GET READY. OFF TO THE FEAST (dir. L. Sogomonian, 2021) addressing female genital mutilation in Northern Caucasus in modern Russia, was selected for international competition at Clermont-Ferrand ISFF in 2022.
