Mara Tamkovich is a Polish-Belarusian screenwriter and director. She studied journalism at Warsaw University and for ten years worked as a journalist for independent Belarusian media. After graduating film directing at Warsaw Film School and Wajda School, Mara kept on focusing on socially relevant topics deeply connected to reality. Her debut feature Under the Grey Sky premiered at Tribeca Festival, won Best Debut Award at Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, was nominated for European Film Awards in the “European Discovery” category and is now available on HBO Max. Her films were also presented and awarded at Chicago IFF (Silver Hugo Award), Torino IFF (Scuola Holden Special Mention), Camerimage IFF and others. Mara is a member of European Film Academy, Polish Directors Guild and a board member of Belarusian Independent Film Academy.
