Mara Tamkovich
Mara Tamkovich is a Polish-Belarusian screenwriter and director. Born in Minsk, Belarus, she moved to Poland to study journalism at Warsaw University and is a graduate of film directing at Warsaw Film School and Wajda School. For almost ten years Mara worked as a journalist for independent Belarusian media broadcasting from Poland. Her films focus on socially relevant topics deeply connected to reality and were presented at numerous festivals in Poland and abroad including Chicago IFF, Torino Film Festival, Minsk IFF, FEST – New Directions | New Films Festival and others, receiving over 30 awards. Her first feature UNDER THE GREY SKY premiered at Tribeca Festival, won multiple awards including Best Debut at Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and was nominated for European Film Awards in “European Discovery - Prix FIPRESCI” category. Mara is a member of Polish Directors Guild, Polish Film Academy and a board member of Belarusian Independent Film Academy.
