Maja Benc
She studied film and television directing at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, where she was actively involved in the creation of short feature and documentary films from the outset, both as a director and as an assistant director. Her curiosity and dedication to the cinematic image led her to editing, where she developed her sense of rhythm and narrative while studying at FAMU in Prague. Her documentary film Izvor was awarded Best Director at the Etno Festival, while as an editor she worked on a number of acclaimed student films, including Igra, which received the Magnesia Award for Best Student Film, and Proces, which won the award for Best Editing.
In the world of television, she was part of the directing team for shows such as "Czechia Slovakia's Got Talent" and "X Factor," and her experience with large productions shaped her film sensibility. She explored feature film through her short film "Beli kao čaršavi" and is currently developing her next short film "Crveni" and a feature-length project "Kámen v Botě". Her work is characterized by an interest in intimate, emotional stories, visual expression, and exploring the complexity of female identity. Her film aesthetics are marked by an interest in experimental editing and fragmented narration, an approach that allows her to explore the inner worlds of her characters and create a cinematic dynamic based on emotions and psychological processes.
