Anna Kalnina
Anna Kalnina is a Latvian screenwriter whose work centers on narratives of radical transformation, tracing the moment a character stops obeying gravity and begins reshaping the world. A 2025 alumna of the Midpoint TV Series Launch, Anna creates visceral psychological dramas where nature is a living character and the emotional landscape is as physical as the setting.
Her debut feature, My Freedom (2023), a historical drama set during the 1980s, showcased her ability to blend cultural memory with intimate character study. With The Body Electric, she pivots into high-concept sci-fi noir, applying her signature "gothic-melodrama" lens to a thriller genre.
Approaching narrative as architecture, Anna works from the philosophical core outward. She builds worlds where systemic failure collides with human resilience, working at the intersection of myth, realism, and existential ethical debate. She holds an MFA from the Latvian Academy of Culture and writes in Latvian, Russian, and English.
