Sara Stijovic
Sara Stijović (b. 1997, Podgorica) is a Montenegrin film director with an MA from KinoEyes - European Film Masters and a BA from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje. She was the first Montenegrin selected for La Fabrique Cinéma (Cannes ’73) and is a Royal Dutch Foundation awardee, Sarajevo Talents alumna, Al Jazeera Ambassador, and Slano Film Days 2026 Talent.
Her projects current include the mini-series Pray for Us (Cinelink Drama 2024 Grand Prix, HAVC Award; The Balkan Way Grand Prix), a co-production between Montenegro, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina; the hybrid feature The 13th Fish (BDC Discoveries 2025, DokLeipzig Award); and the short Sourdough, supported by the Film Centre of Montenegro.
She wrote and directed Sourdough, co-produced with Antitalent (CRO) and Tramal Films (SLO). Her earlier films screened at BAFTA- and Oscar-qualifying festivals. She also programs the student section of the Herceg Novi Film Festival and founded Tiny Sofa in 2021.
