Peter Petralia

Profession: Writer, Director
Profession: Writer, Director
Country: Canada

Peter Salvatore Petralia is a storyteller drawn to unconventional characters navigating chaotic worlds. Growing up as a weird gay kid in a fractured family in 1980s–90s Florida, he developed a passion for underdogs and a voice rooted in resilience. His eclectic life—circus performer, Barbie GameBoy producer, amateur boxer in his 40s—informs work rich in grit and reinvention. As a gay man in the hyper-masculine world of boxing, he brings raw authenticity to his stories, often spotlighting LGBTQ+ and older characters. His screenplays have been recognized by the Titan Awards and Finish Line Script Competition. With an MA and PhD in Theater Studies, his plays have been produced on four continents. Critics have praised his atmospheric writing, with Time Out New York calling him “a master at creating atmosphere” and The New York Times describing his work Whisper as “often quite poetic…flirting with the feel of a supernatural psychological thriller.”
