Michalis Malandrakis
Michalis Malandrakis was born in 1996 in Chania and currently lives in Athens. He studied directing at the Lycurgus Stavrakos School of Film and Television and graduated from the Department of Communication, Media, and Culture at Panteion University.
He works in the Fiction Department of ERT as a Project Manager / Showrunner, focusing on script development and creative supervision of television series. He has worked on series including Kane oti Koimasai, O Orkos, Ilektra, Ta Kalitera mas Hronia, Ki Omós Eimai Akoma Edo, Se Xena Heria, To Telefteo Nisi, Chaireta mou ton Platano, To Dichty, and others.
His debut novel, Patriot (2019, Polis Editions), received the State Award for Best First-Time Author (shared). His second novel, Turn Up the Music, Please (2023, Polis Editions), was shortlisted for the State Novel Award.
He has written three plays. His theatrical piece The Distant Lights Dance for Us won both the Jury Prize and Audience Award at the D-Athens Dionysia 2025 Theater Competition, in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens. His play Sweet Dreams premiered in spring 2024 at the Topos Allou stage, directed by Maximos Moumouris, and continued for a second season at the Poli Theater.
Additionally, he served for two years on the ERT Film Committee, participating in the evaluation of proposals and managing 1.5% of ERT’s revenue allocated to film funding.
