Bara Jichova Tyson
Bára Jíchová Tyson is a Czech-American artist and filmmaker whose work moves between documentary, collage, and social inquiry. She is currently directing and co-producing Playtopia, a Czech-Romanian-Macedonian-U.S. hybrid documentary in which eight children from different parts of the world attempt to explain human life to an unfamiliar intelligence. Combining observation, children’s own footage, synthetic imagery, and handmade collage, the film explores what is lost when human life is reduced to what can be observed, analyzed, and understood. Her debut feature, Talking About Adultery (2019), premiered at Sheffield Doc/Fest and screened at Ji.hlava IDFF and DOC NYC. She co-wrote and co-edited Organ Player (Sundance 2018), edited Instructions on Parting (MoMA Doc Fortnight 2018), and directed The Hatch House. Her visual art has been exhibited in New York and San Francisco. She is represented by Municipal Bonds. She is a MacDowell Fellow (2016, 2026) and a 2025 Yaddo artist-in-residence.
