My 19-year-old Granny

The story takes place in Lviv, during the russian-Ukrainian war. We meet 16-year-old Liuba — a schoolgirl struggling under her mother’s control. One day, she finds an old hippie dress that belonged to her late grandmother. She tries it on — and suddenly, she’s thrown back in time to Soviet Ukraine, 1975. There, she meets her grandmother Vilena — a 19-year-old pregnant hippie. Liuba is terrified at first, but soon she discovers that she can move between the two eras. And she realizes: if she doesn’t protect her grandmother’s pregnancy, she herself might cease to exist. Vilena takes her into a secret hippie commune called The Republic of the Holy Garden — for the first time, Liuba feels like she belongs somewhere. But soon, she begins to see the cracks: her grandfather is an undercover KGB agent, who betrays the hippies to the Soviets, leading to Vilena’s death. Liuba tries to change the past — but she can’t. What she can change is herself.
