Dionis Prifti
I am a writer and film director from Tirana, holding an MA in Film and TV Directing from the University of Arts. I have written, directed, or co-directed three short films and a short documentary.
My latest script, Antimuseum, was developed and produced through EU4Culture as a short animated film and is currently circulating at international festivals. The short An Unusual Event was selected and developed in Sarajevo with EU support. I am currently developing the short film Silent Return and my first feature project, The Agent, selected for the TorinoFilmLab Next 2026 development program.
My work combines realist settings with surreal and poetic undertones, exploring fragile human relationships within rapidly changing social landscapes. Alongside filmmaking, I am also active as a fiction writer. I have published two books and received the Kadare Prize 2024 for my satirical-experimental novel Two Weeks Under the Balloon. My debut short story collection, Bar Sahara, received the First Prize in Prose from Albania’s National Center for Books and Reading, under the Ministry of Culture.
I also serve as a selector for live-action and animated short films at the Tirana International Film Festival and have been involved in organizing literary clubs and auteur cinema events in Tirana.
