This must be the place

On a snowy winter evening in 1998, a shy ten-year-old boy sets out for what he believes will be an important milestone: his fi rst birthday party invitation. Carrying a carefully chosen gift and eager to make a good impression, he unknowingly becomes the target of a cruel prank when he is given a false address. Too ashamed to admit what has happened, he fi nds himself alone in an unfamiliar apartment building. As the evening unfolds, an elderly couple gradually invite him into their warm, old-fashioned apartment, a place that feels untouched by time. Through simple gestures of care and a compassionate white lie, they choose to protect his fragile dignity, transforming a night of humiliation and disappointment into an unexpected moment of gentle human connection. Set over the course of a single winter evening, This Must Be the Place is an evocative coming-of-age miniature in which an act of cruelty gives way to unlikely companionship. A tender and intimate story about loneliness and the kindness of strangers.
