The Abhorrence

The life of Matviy, a thirty-year-old State Emergency Service officer, changes drastically when, after an evacuation from an occupied territory, two mothers return to him instead of one. The first suffers from progressing dementia, while the second is artificially cheerful and full of life. Confused, Matviy hides the second (healthy) mother in a house outside the city and begins visiting her in secret. The more time he spends there, the worse the condition of the first (ill) mother becomes, leaving his wife Tonya to shoulder the burden of her care. Under the weight of this secret, Matviy increasingly loses control over his life and ultimately faces a choice: accept the harsh reality of the present or surrender completely to illusion.
