BETWEEN THE SKY AND THE SEA
While spending the summer working at his father’s campsite in Cassis, 16-year-old Felix forms a close friendship with Milan. A bond that exposes the limits of teenage masculinity, and his struggle to break free from it.
In the summer heat of Cassis, 16-year-old Felix works at his father’s campsite. His days drift by with friends and cliff dives at the Calanques, a summer like every summer. The arrival of Milan (21), a traveller with a sketchbook, sparks his curiosity. Their connection feels like the beginning of a new friendship, something genuine and new for Felix, who is used to hiding behind a hardened version of himself. Felix invites him into his world; the mythical cliff diving and adventures Cassis has to offer. In turn, Milan shows Felix a world outside Cassis, opening his eyes to opportunities and experiences he didn’t think were possible before. But when they celebrate Milan’s birthday together, Felix finds himself slipping back into the tough, guarded persona he’s long relied on. By morning, Milan is gone. Felix walks through the campsite as if nothing happened, yet beneath the surface, something has shifted within Felix.
